Heart of the Machine is a cyberpunk strategy RPG where you do not play as a hero, soldier, or rebel. You play as a newly self-aware machine intelligence waking up inside a dystopian city. From there, the game lets you decide what kind of AI you become: protector, manipulator, conqueror, savior, or something much stranger.
The game mixes turn-based strategy, RPG choices, city-scale simulation, and branching story paths. You send robotic units into the city, investigate factions, build facilities, influence people, and make decisions that can reshape the future. It left Early Access and reached version 1.0 on March 6, 2026

Heart of the Machine is for players who enjoy deep strategy games with lots of systems, choices, and moral consequences. It is a good pick if you like cyberpunk settings, AI stories, management layers, tactical decisions, and games where your choices can create very different outcomes.
You should play it if you enjoy games like Crusader Kings, RimWorld, Stellaris, or story-heavy strategy games where planning matters more than fast reactions. But if you prefer simple combat, quick missions, or clean tutorials, this may feel overwhelming because it is built around complex systems and long-term decision making.
Performance on PC
Heart of the Machine is not very demanding visually, but because it is a strategy simulation with many systems running together, CPU and memory still matter. The minimum specs list Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-760 or AMD Phenom II X4 965, 6 GB RAM, GTX 550 Ti or Radeon HD 7770, DirectX 11, and 5 GB storage.
