The game also works very well for players who enjoy cooperative sandbox games. Building a large planetary base, setting up resource networks, and exploring new worlds with friends can make the progression feel much more dynamic.

If you mainly play survival games for combat, difficult enemies, or a strong story campaign, Astroneer may feel too relaxed. Its biggest strengths are discovery, construction, automation, and the freedom to experiment with the environment.

Performance on PC
Astroneer is generally easy to run on modern gaming PCs, especially at 1080p. Entry-level and older systems can still handle the game with reduced settings, while newer mid-range hardware should have no trouble maintaining smooth performance at higher visual settings.

Performance can become more demanding once you create large bases, place many machines, or build complicated automation systems. Areas with a lot of connected platforms, storage units, vehicles, and active equipment can cause more noticeable frame-rate drops than the quieter early-game environments.

The game can also occasionally stutter while loading terrain or moving quickly across large areas. An SSD helps with overall responsiveness and loading, but even on strong hardware, extremely developed bases can still put additional strain on performance. For most players, however, Astroneer remains a smooth and relatively lightweight sandbox experience.
