About This Game

Quick Overview
Half-Life 2 is a story-driven first-person shooter that still feels special because it does not play like a normal mission-based shooter. Instead of constantly stopping for cutscenes, it pulls you through City 17 with physics puzzles, vehicle sections, quiet horror moments, rebel battles, and one of the most iconic weapons in gaming: the Gravity Gun.

The game was released on November 16, 2004, but Valve’s 20th Anniversary Update added developer commentary, Steam Workshop support, graphics improvements, bug fixes, and included Episode One and Episode Two inside the main game package.

Who Should Play This Game?
Half-Life 2 is perfect for players who enjoy atmospheric shooters with strong world-building, smart level design, and variety instead of endless gunfights. It is a great choice if you like sci-fi stories, physics-based gameplay, and campaigns that keep changing the pace every few chapters.

You should play it if you want to understand why so many modern shooters still borrow ideas from it. But if you only enjoy fast multiplayer shooters or modern open-world progression systems, Half-Life 2 may feel slower and more old-school.

Performance on PC
Half-Life 2 runs extremely well on modern PCs. The official minimum requirements are very light by today’s standards: a 1.7 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 8.1-level graphics, and around 6.5 GB of storage. Steam also notes that the Steam client now requires Windows 10 or later, even though the old listed game requirement mentions earlier Windows versions.

For almost any current gaming laptop or desktop, performance should be smooth at high settings. The Anniversary Update improves visuals and UI support, but it is still a very easy game to run compared to modern shooters.
